The solid team effort helped bring home the Hardware....

DEFENSIVE BATTLE ENDS IN LOSS....

01/23/10

IN the best Section 9 contest of the year, Monroe netted a late third period goal to defeat the Burke varsity 2-1.

Sophomore goaltender Eric Hayden once again stepped up his game to turn away 16 0f 18 Crusader shots; including a penalty shot with three minutes left in the game.

The Eagles overall defensive game dramatically improved yet missed opportunities by the offense sealed the Eagle's fate.

Senior Dillon Dolansky led the defensive team of Connor Dolansky, Alex Day, and Freshman Liam Hatch to their best performance of the season.

Mike McAteer scored the lone Eagle goal.

The Varsity will now travel on Wednesday to Katonah to finish the Scarsdale Tournament that was postponed due to snow. Game time 3:45 vs The Harvey School. Bus leaves at 1:30.

Alumni: Dane Wakefield is back at school leading the Niagra D1 club team.

shutout of the season along with a 6-3 win against the nations 11th best (Robert Morris Univerity). Included are two shootouts, winning vs a good team (Mercyhurst) but loosing

JV BOYS VISIT STATEN ISLAND......

01/20/2010
With the City skyline on one side and the famous Staten Landfill on the other, the JV boys encountered a rough Msgr. Farrell team on Wednesday. Despite a gallant effort by a Burke team comprised of 7th thru 10th graders, the young Eagles fell to the older more physical Msgr. Farrell team.

With only a 3-2 deficit into the third period , the Eaglets could not hold off the Raiders; final score Farrell 6 Burke 3.

With the win , the varsity will play Sunday Night 7pm @ the Ice Hutch for the Championship vs The Harvey School.

Juniors Craig Mende, Richard Hudzig, Josh Koerner (2) , all found net along with senior co-captain Jason Healey to stake the Eagles to the hard earned victory.

Senior Dillon Dolansky played his usual stellar defense shouldering the major brunt of the defensive work.

Eric Hayden stopped 18 of 22 while the Eagles blasted 32 shots on their opponent.

Burke improves to 9-5 overall.....

Look and You Shall Find........

Well it's not the rink Burke Catholic has been talking of building, but as far as the Hockey team is concerned, it will do for now; A very large pond found by Mr.Dolan and Msgnr Byrnes when Burke purchased the land next to the school.

With all the boys and coaches helping out with the clearing of the snow - a rink was born. Hopefully the ice will stay frozen for a while.............

01/15 Game vs NFA will be re-scheduled ; TBA

The Mad Hatter.....Burke Improves To 8-5....

01/08/10

Senior Jason Healey rifled an empty net goal to complete his hat trick and a 5 point night as the Burke Catholic Varsity defeated ST. Joes 5-3 at Sport-O-Rama.

Line mate Junior Richard Hudzik contributed 2 goals and 2 assist, while Sophomore Goaltender Eric Hayden stopped 16 of 19 shots in the victory.

Once again the Eagles set the tone early , skating out to a 4-1 lead , only to see a late flurry by their opponent make things interesting. Clinging to a 4-3 lead , the senior co-captain Healey,
buried the empty netter while squashing St. Joe's visions of a comeback win.

Junior Craig Mende continues his fine play. The ' Charlie Hustle ' of Burke Hockey has solidified the defensive play of the third line.

After a weekend off, the Eagles will get ready for a busy three games in three night set Friday, Saturday, Sunday....

Three Periods to a Hockey Game......

01/04/2010

After taking a 2-0 lead into the third period , Burke Catholic surrendered 5 goals to absorb a disappointing 5-3 loss to Catholic School rival Iona Prep. Resident sharp shooters Jay Healey and Josh Koerner, along with Sophomore defenseman Connor Dolansky, provided the offense which came up to little to late.

With the Eagles sporting a 2-0 advantage , the Gaels came out flying to start the third period. The swarming Gail offense was too much for the young defensive corps of Eagles as the 2-0 advantage quickly evaporated to a 3-2 deficit. Connor Dolansky and the Eagles responded with a power play goal yet a late game penalty call against Burke snuffed out any hopes of an Eagle rally.

Penalties hurt the Eagles in this contest; Iona scored three power play goals including the game winner.

Despite the setback, the Eagles once again proved they can play with a D1 team . Late goal decisions on the losing end have become the common thread for the season, yet the Eagles have been very competitive.

The Eagles will have to maintain their effort for three periods and be more disciplined to return to the State Final Four.

Notes: Friday's Varsity game is away 8:45 pm at Sport-o-Rama …..JV will play Warwick on the Friday practice slot.

Coming Of Age.....Hayden Earns Award....

Led by sophomore goaltender Eric Hayden , the penalty killing unit of Senior Dillon Dolansky, Sophomore Connor Dolansky, Junior Mark McAteer, killed off a 5-3 power play advantage for Lakeland/Panas to help secure a hard fought 4-3 victory for the gritty Burke Catholic Eagles.

Playing in the consolation game of the first annual Suffern Tournament, Senior Jay Healey led the offense with two goals and an assist - including a game winning tally late in the third period. Junior Josh Koerner and Dillon Dolansky also found the net while Eric Hayden stopped 25 shots to preserve the victory.

The effort was a good response to the 5-0 loss the previous night to Suffern. The play of the third line consisting of Junior Craig Mende, Freshman Sean Matusch and Nick Musco, helped the Eagles commit to a more defensive style game that has been suspect as of late.

Eric Hayden's play in goal throughout the Tournament helped earn him a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Eric faced 70 shots on net - stopping 62.

Burke improves to 7-4 on the season.

The varsity opens the second half of the season with a game on Sunday vs Catholic school rivals Iona Prep - 8:45pm @ Ice Time.

Notes: Regular practice begins Monday Jan 4 ( Mondays 5-6//Thursdays 5:30-6:30)--Friday's game vs St.Joe's will be played @ Sportorama 8:45 pm.
