With a once in a lifetime penalty call--highlighted and studied laboriously in the ref's free time--Lakeland/ Panas took advantage of the gift to tie the score at three and eventually win 4-3 in overtime over the weekend weary Eagles.With multiple scrimmages and a high paced Lakeland contest on tap for the Holiday weekend, the Eagles played well in their first tough competition of the season.
Friday and Saturday featured the Salmon River Shamrocks, ready and willing to get revenge from last year's loss at the Regionals . Both teams came out swinging - 37 penalties dished out in Friday's game by the men in stripes-with Salmon River surviving the 2-1 scrimmage.
Saturday's Scarsdale Jamboree scrimmage brought more of the same effort and the same results. Shamrocks 2...Burke Catholic 1.
Burke also split scrimmages at the Scarsdale Jamboree with a 3-2 loss to Fieldstone Prep and a 3-1 win over Scarsdale.
Josh Koerner continued his fine offensive play with multiple goals for the weekend along with a solid defensive effort by Dillon Dolanski. Jay Healey,Nick Musco, and Richard Hudzig also chipped in on the offensive side.
The revamped Eagles will now play their first League contests of the season ; O'Neil on Thursday at West Point and NFA at home on Sunday.
