Skating In Circles........

Hats off to the players that have participated in the off-ice workouts. Those players that made the effort to attend the YMCA cycling/fitness class , as well as the after school work-outs , have demonstrated by their participation that they are committed to having a successful season. Hopefully the work-outs will help us begin the season in good condition. We hope to continue them through the year.
We are looking for a student reporter to help us update the web page each week . A student reporter will have full team access . See coach Trezza if interested.
We would like to have student cheerleaders at our home games . Any student interested in rounding up a cheerleading team see coach Trezza.
Senior players will be expected to help out with the JV team; help coach Trezza run the practices and assist during games. Participation will allow the seniors to continue to build the Burke program, get credit for community service , and gain some extra ice time.

MONROE WINS STATE TITLE

Burke's main rival in Section 9 hockey skated to a state title in Utica this past weekend. Burke was only one of two teams that blemished the Crusader's record this season with a 3-3 tie in January.

Congratulations to coach Bascardi and all his players for a great season.

WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR............

B2/25/07: Monroe forward pins Monroe's goalie Sean O'Sullivan against the net during the section 9 championship game. Monroe won 7 to 2. Burke scored one of their two goals on the play.

UPDATE:03/05/2007
The Burke Varsity provided a gritty effort yet came up short in their quest for a Section 9 title. The Crusaders' explosive speed was too much for the Eagles resulting in a 7-2 loss.
Despite the setback, the Eagles provided a game effort resulting in an exciting final. Hats off to both teams and good luck to the Crusaders as they battle for a state championship.

Notes. There will be a spring clinic on Wednesday nights-(8-9pm)-beginning in May for approximately 6 weeks.. Cost will be determined by the number of players that sign up. ALL varsity/JV/new players are welcome to sign on. Usa insurance is necessary ( travel players should have it)--if not--an extra $25.00 insurance fee will be needed. The format for the clinic will be drills followed by a scrimmage. The idea is to continue building team unity-keep players skating and improve their skills--get an idea of next year's team. The clinic is not mandatory.
You can sign up by email to BurkeHockey@gmail.com or at school. There will be announcements and sign up sheets at school.

UPDATE 02/12/2007

  • The Eagles posted a 5-2 league win over O'Neill on Thursday at West Point. Alex Pizzano(2) Ben Falkowski(1) and Tommy Mahoney(1) provided the offense while Mike Beck and Dane Wakefield combined to make 12 saves in the victory. Chris Reinfried (2) and Justin Smith (1) assisted on the goals.

  • The Monroe Knights flashed their speed and offense defeating the Eagle varsity 5-0 at Icetime. Goaltenders Mike Beck and Dane Wakefield did their best to hold off the Knights, stopping 30 shots on net, but the Burke boys could not generate any offense to offset the attack.

With the loss, the Burke boys will now host Newburgh on Sunday February 18th ( tentative time 4:15pm) in the preliminary round of the playoffs. The game should be a good contest between two teams that played to a 2-2 tie in their last encounter. Burke won their first meeting 4-0.

The road to the Championship will not be easy , yet the Burke boys are capable.

The competition is what makes it fun.

Notes: The game scheduled for this Tuesday against the Harvey school has been cancelled. Our regular practice remains in effect; Tuesday 5:45 at Icetime.
