The Varsity limped home from the Skyland's Tournament with a fourth place finish; posting a win,a loss, and a tie. After a fine effort against a tough Jefferson team (4-4) , the Burke boys finished the tournament with a lackluster 4-2 loss at the hands of Chattam High School.

Mark Wojnicki scored his first varsity goal.

Weekend Update 12/24/07

12/24/2007---Both Varsity and the JV teams suffered losses this past weekend.

On Friday night St. Joe's handed the Varsity boys their second loss of the season; final score 4-2.

After falling behind 3-0 after two periods of play, the Eagles responded with two third period goals only to fall short with the comeback.

Greg Brushett and Tommy Farr provided the offense with one goal each .

On Saturday the junior Eagles lost to the Big Dogs 3-1. The game featured some end to end action as the Eagles held their own despite a short bench. Alex Day scored scored the lone Burke tally.

On Sunday night, the Alumni and the Varsity battled to a 7-7 tie. No defense in this one; as the spirited contest provided many offensive highlights.

Eagle Varsity/ Jv Perfect For The Week

Coming off a sloppy 3-2 mid week win over Fieldstone Prep, Goaltender Mike Beck recorded his first shutout of the season with a 5-0 whitewash of league opponent NFA. With the win the varsity improves to 5-1 on the season and 1-1 in Section 9 play.

This contest was about defense. Committed to shutting down their opponent , the Burke boys aggressively forchecked in the offensive zone and smothered any offensive chances by the young NFA team.

The total shots on net ( Burke 45-NFA 15) pretty much indicated the the Eagles control of the game.

Greg Brushett, Ross Flood , Alex Pizzano, Chris Reinfried , Jayson Healey , each contributed one goal in the victory.

In an earlier Saturday contest, the JV boys posted a 7-2 victory over Monroe. Josh Koener and Mike McAteer led the way on offense while Yale Gropman,Alex Day,Dillon Dlanski, and Mike Moore, contributed on defense.

Eight Grade goaltender Eric Hayden stopped 18 shots as the JV improves to 3-0.

If the Rink is open we have to pay for the ice-so- we will make every effort to utilize the ice. If for any reason a parent feels it is too dangerous to travel due to weather conditions, they should make their own decisions on a player's attendance. The coach will understand the circumstances. Pratice is optional.

In the case of a game , if the game has not been cancelled , we would expect all players to make every effort to attend. We will try our best to keep everyone informed.

It is the player's responsibility to inquire about conditions regarding practices or games. Each player should notify Coach Trezza if they are not going to attend a scheduled event.

Varsity Suffers First Loss Of The Season

12/02/2007--With three victories to begin the season and arch rivals Monroe in their sights , the Burke varsity had high hopes of being successful in their first Section 9 game of the season. Unfortunately the boys in purple had other ideas. Two goals in the fist and third periods sealed the victory for Monroe.

Tommy Farr was the lone sniper for Burke, scoring an unassisted goal in the third period.

Final score: Knights 4- Eagles 1.

Two months to figure it out.............

JV GAME CANCELLED

12/02/2007---Tonight's JV game vs Washingtonville is cancelled.Next practice is Friday 12/07--4:15pm.

Varsity Game vs Fordham Cancelled

12/02/2007---Due to the Weather, tonight's game vs Fordham is cancelled. The game will be made-up at a later date.

There will be a game this Wednesday vs Fieldstone Prep (away) this Wednesday 5:30pm. There will be a bus which will leave immediately after school. All players must travel on the bus Each way.

Reminder: Picture day Monday--all Varsity ( including swing players) should be dressed by 4:45pm (grey); Regular practice afterwards.

As of 1pm today the JV game is still scheduled for Ice Time 7pm. We will keep everyone posted. If any parent feels they are not comfotable driving , just inform coach Trezza.
